Our Peer Program

Life can sometimes feel overwhelming, and having someone who truly "gets it" can make all the difference. That’s where a peer support program shines—offering a unique connection rooted in shared experiences and mutual understanding.

At The Wellness Initiative, we believe that the best support comes from individuals who have walked a similar path and can provide practical insights as well as genuine empathy.

By signing up with us, you’ll gain access to a supportive community and tailored guidance from trained Lived Experience Professionals who’ve navigated their own challenges.

Whether you’re looking to feel more balanced, build resilience, or simply take steps toward a life that feels fulfilling to you, our peer support program creates a safe and encouraging space to explore what works for you. It’s all about connection, growth, and creating positive change together. Let us walk alongside you on your journey.

A Peer is "someone who gets it".


​As Peer Mentors and Peer Support Workers, we have firsthand experience navigating the challenges that come with mental health struggles. We’ve walked winding roads like yours, and we know how overwhelming the journey can feel. But you don’t have to walk it alone – we’re here to walk beside you.

It doesn't matter where you are now, we believe you can get to where you want to be.

Is it going to be easy? Maybe not. But we are here to listen, to encourage, to share ideas and learn together.  
We will support you to find a person that is the right fit for you so you get the most out of your time with us.

Breaking Free from Labels: Support Tailored to You

For some, mental health labels—like anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, or eating disorders—can be empowering. They bring clarity, understanding, and a sense of community. For others, these labels might feel limiting or even harmful, shaping how they see themselves or how others perceive them.

​At The Wellness Initiative, we know that everyone has a unique perspective on these labels, and no matter where you stand, we’re here to support you. Whether diagnoses like schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder (BPD), or addiction resonate with your journey, or you feel like labels don’t fit your experiences, we’ll walk alongside you to help you find what works best for you.

Your labels don’t define you—and they don’t define how we approach your support either. We don’t focus on them unless you want us to. What matters most is your desire for change and your readiness to start taking steps, even if you’re not sure what those steps look like yet.

We’ve all been through the process of realising that we’re so much more than the labels we carry. With the right support, those labels don’t have to hold you back, and the possibilities for your life can be truly limitless!

Our Collaborative Approach

A collaborative approach is the key to ensuring you feel fully cared for on your journey with us, addressing every layer of your needs—from long-term goals through to everyday challenges. At The Wellness Initiative, your Peer Mentor and Peer Support Worker form a dedicated team, providing both big-picture guidance and practical, day-to-day support to help you thrive.

Your Peer Mentor: The guide for your Journey
  • Helps you explore what matters most to you and what you’d like to focus on in your life.
  • Collaborate with you to identify what’s most meaningful in your life and uncover what might be missing.
  • Supports you in navigating challenges and building resilience along the way.
  • Regularly checks in to ensure the support you’re receiving suits your needs.
  • Adjusts the approach and strategies we use together as your journey evolves.
  • Help you develop practical strategies and apply key concepts to create positive change and move closer to the life you want.

Your Peer Support Worker: A source of Encouragement and Practical Help
  • Walks alongside you and offers a helping hand to make daily life feel a little easier and less overwhelming. 
  • Encourage you to take small steps forward and build momentum, making it easier to manage life’s day-to-day demands.
  • Stays by your side, cheering you on as you build confidence and find your rhythm.
  • Assists with everyday tasks, like getting to appointments, joining community activities, or tackling things you’ve been putting off.
  • Offer practical ideas and companionship to help you get through the parts of life that feel tough right now.
  • Works closely with your Peer Mentor to ensure everything aligns with what works best for you.

Together, your Peer Mentor and Peer Support Worker can help you rediscover your own strengths and feel confident tackling life on your terms. ​We aim to step back as you grow into your independence—not because we don’t care, but because we know you’re capable of creating a life that works for you.

This program was created by drawing on the collective experiences, knowledge, and insights of our team. It reflects the lessons we’ve learned and the barriers we’ve faced in our own lives—whether those challenges were related to mental health, physical health, or simply navigating difficult circumstances. It’s the kind of support we wish we’d had when we needed it most—a program designed to help you feel empowered, capable, and ready to move forward, no matter where you’re starting from or what you’re dealing with.

Did you know that we also provide mental health support on weekends?!
 
As Lived Experience Professionals, we completely understand that mental health concerns don’t just pack up for the weekend at 5pm on Friday, so we have ensured that we have a flexible team that can be available to provide evening and weekend supports.
