The Wellness Initiative is a proudly independent, peer-led organisation. Every member of our team, at all levels, brings their own lived experience to the table. This might include (but not limited to):
A personal journey of mental health recovery
A recovery journey with alcohol and/or other drugs
Living with neurodivergence
It’s this shared understanding that makes our support authentic, relatable, and deeply impactful.
We know firsthand what it’s like to struggle, and that understanding shapes everything we do. Our services are built on the supports that helped us most—and the ones we wished had been available when we needed them.
Together, we share ideas, explore new groups and events, and embrace opportunities to strengthen self-awareness, foster connection, and bring a little more joy into life.
Our Vision
Our vision is to create a joyful, healthy and connected community who are engaged in their wellbeing.
We’re here to walk alongside you, helping you discover your strengths and develop your capacity to tackle challenges on your own. Ultimately, our goal is to work ourselves out of a job—not because we don't care, but because we believe in your ability to thrive without us. When you no longer need our support, that's when we know we've succeeded.
Our Perspective on Mental Health
At The Wellness Initiative, we see mental health as something everyone experiences—not something that can be neatly categorized as 'good' or 'bad.' Life comes with ups and downs, and we all sit somewhere on a continuum that shifts over time. Whether or not you’ve had a diagnosis, we believe that by understanding what helps you feel your best and taking small steps toward positive change, you can lead a life that feels full, meaningful, and fulfilling.
Built from Experience: The Help We Wish We Had
This program was created by drawing on the collective experiences, knowledge, and insights of our team. It reflects the lessons we’ve learned and the barriers we’ve faced in our own lives—whether those challenges were related to mental health, physical health, or simply navigating difficult circumstances. It’s the kind of support we wish we’d had when we needed it most—a program designed to help you feel empowered, capable, and ready to move forward, no matter where you’re starting from or what you’re dealing with.
Who can use our services?
Since mental health is something we all experience, we believe support should be accessible to anyone who feels they could use a helping hand. At The Wellness Initiative, we’re here for anyone who wants to explore what their version of a good life looks like. Whether it’s finding more balance, building confidence, or simply taking small steps toward change, we’re here to walk alongside you as you define and work toward improving your life.
Self-Stigma is real.
Self-Stigma is that voice in your head that says, 'I should be able to handle this on my own,' or 'Getting support means I'm weak.' It can make us hesitate to reach out, even when we need it most, and can make us feel like we're failing in some way just because we're struggling. At The Wellness Initiative, we’re here to remind you that asking for help is not a weakness—it’s a brave step toward taking care of yourself. Everyone needs a little extra support sometimes, and there's no shame in that. We've walked similar paths ourselves, and we’ve created the kind of support we wish we had back then.
With time, you'll build the confidence and tools to navigate life on your own, and that's something to be proud of—not something to feel ashamed about.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does peer support differ from traditional mental health support?
Traditional support work usually focuses on providing help through professional training and set methods. Peer work is different—it’s all about connecting with someone who’s been through similar challenges and truly understands what you’re going through. At The Wellness Initiative, our team combines the best of both worlds. We’re formally trained, just like traditional support workers, but we also bring our own lived experiences to the table. This means we can offer support that’s not only professional but also deeply personal and relatable.
Who are your Peer Mentors and Peer Support Workers?
Our team is made up of people who truly get it—they’ve all faced their own mental health challenges and know firsthand how tough it can be. They don’t just understand; they bring their personal experiences to every interaction, offering heartfelt support and practical guidance to help you on your journey.
When you start working with us, you’ll be paired with a Peer Mentor and a Peer Support Worker. These two roles work side by side to make sure you get the support you need, when you need it, in a way that feels right for you.

Are your services available to individuals outside of Perth?
Living regionally or remotely can make finding services challenging, and we understand how important it is to feel supported no matter where you are. That’s why we offer flexible options like video calls (Zoom or Teams) and phone support, so you can access our services from anywhere in Australia—or even beyond!
If you’re located outside of Australia and would like to work with us, we’re happy to explore ways to make that happen or help connect you with similar services in your area.
How Can I access your services?
You can access our services in a way that works best for you! We offer options for private payment or NDIS funding, so whether you’re looking to use your NDIS plan or prefer to pay privately, we’ve got you covered. If you’d like more details on costs, funding options, or how to use your NDIS plan, feel free to reach out—we’re happy to guide you through the process. You can connect with us directly through our website or contact us to get started. Whatever you need, we’re here to help!
We understand that not everyone is able to pay privately or qualify for NDIS funding, and we're actively working on ways to access future government and grant funding to make our services more accessible. In the meantime, we’d love for you to join our mailing list! You’ll stay updated on these developments, as well as other resources, programs, and opportunities that could be helpful to you.
